PETALING JAYA: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, and Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia, have conveyed their condolences over the passing of Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali.
The Royal Palace said Their Majesties prayed that God grant mercy to the deceased and place her among the faithful and those who performed good deeds.
Their Majesties also prayed that Dr Siti Hasmah’s family be given strength, resilience and patience in facing the loss of their loved one, it said in a statement on Monday (Sept 28).
Dr Siti Hasmah, the wife of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, was born in Klang, Selangor, on July 12, 1926.
She was among Malaysia’s earliest Malay women doctors, graduating in medicine from King Edward VII College of Medicine in Singapore in 1955 before joining the Ministry of Health.
She married Dr Mahathir in 1956 and the couple have seven children.
Dr Siti Hasmah was also active in public health, women’s welfare and social causes, including through leadership roles in various national organisations.
